MILES CITY, MONTANA: MILES CITY, MONTANA: Each year at Miles Community College, distinguished graduating student awards are given to three MCC students based on the individual's time as a student, including their academic and co-curricular involvement. These awards are presented at graduation ceremonies and are given in three divisions: General/Arts and Sciences, Career and Technical, and Nursing. Nominations are submitted in the spring by MCC faculty and staff.

This year, the Class of 2024 Outstanding Graduate in the General/Arts and Sciences division is Rylee Deming of Colstrip, Montana. Deming will be graduating summa cum laude with an Associate of Arts degree in the Education Pathway program program at this Saturday’s graduation ceremony on campus.

Deming is an active and engaged student leader, serving as a Resident Assistant in the residence halls on campus for the 2023-2024 year and participating in programs sponsored by the Student Activities Board. She also teaches at Let Me Shine Preschool in Miles City.

“I’m so grateful for this award!” Deming said. “It shows that all of my hard work, both on campus and in life, is paying off. I always try to be my best in all that I do, and this proves that I’m succeeding in my endeavors.”

Deming was surprised with the award during a recent shift in the residence halls where she was working at the lobby front desk. Members of the MCC leadership team, including the college president and several vice presidents, as well as her instructors, were on hand to present her award with a certificate and medallion.

“I had zero idea this was coming!” she exclaimed.

With her campus involvement and off-campus work, Deming has maintained her focus on academics. She is dedicated to her profession (teaching), shows genuine concern for all her students, and has a great attitude in building strong relationships with them. She demonstrates awareness of each student's academic levels and individual needs and shows an unwavering positive attitude in class, consistently striving for self-improvement and developing a deeper understanding of being an educator.

Deming plans to continue her education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in elementary education through Dickinson State University in North Dakota.

The three Outstanding Graduate Award winners will lead in the student processional during the 84th MCC Commencement Ceremony held this Saturday at 10:00 am in the MCC Centra.
