| Miles Community College Approves 2009
Budget and Faculty Master Agreement at July Board of Trustees

The Miles Community College Board of Trustees approved the
fiscal year 2009 budget in their Monday evening meeting, July
28. This was the second and final reading of the FY '09 budget
and is based on a 410 resident student full-time enrollment
count (FTE) for the 2008-2009 academic year. The approved
unrestricted budget that includes expenses for personnel and
operational costs totals $4,781,257.
In other new business, the College faculty master agreement was
approved by the Board. President Stefani Hicswa praised the
interest based bargaining process used by the MCC faculty
association and College negotiating team and recommended it to
be used in future contractual negotiations. The Miles Community
College faculty contract is approved for the 2008-2009 year
based on the FY '09 budget. A new faculty contract will be
negotiated for 2009-2011 based on state allocated funding from
the 2009 Montana legislature.
The Human Resources report included recent new employee hires:
Karla Lund, Registered Nursing Director; Jerry Forman, Heavy
Equipment instructor; Rand Selle, Admissions Representative and
Assistant Rodeo Coach; Lindsay Woolley, Women's Basketball
Coach/Math Instructor; Ted Stein, Assistant Centra Director; and
Brenda Little, Coordinator of Admissions and Student Life. Two
part-time custodial positions have been hired. Searches for the
Golf Coach/Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and the RSVP
Director positions are still ongoing. The search for an Adult
Nursing Education instructor will begin soon.
Announcements from the President's report included: highlights
from the July Montana Board of Regents meeting in Great Falls
and the College nomination of retired trustee, Jim Lucas, for
the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) 2008
Trustee Leadership Award. Sharon Wilcox, MCC Trustee, and Carol
Hudson, Institutional Research/Public Relations Director,
collaborated on the ACCT award submission. The Trustee
Leadership Award is a national award which recognizes a
community college trustee or trustee emeritus who has made
significant contributions in community college advancement.
Other activities reported included the new college website look,
opening of student residence halls on August 23, student
orientation on August 26, and classes beginning Wednesday,
August 27. There will be faculty and staff in-service days on
August 25-26 and the 2008 Fall Roundup community public
relations event on Thursday, August 28.
The August Board of Trustees meeting will be held Monday, August
25 at 4:00 p.m. in Community Room 106. |
