Miles Community College Employee Robin Gerber Receives Spring Semester Blue and Silver Award
 

Robin GerberMiles Community College employee, Robin Gerber, has been named Employee of the Spring 2009 Semester, receiving the MCC Blue and Silver Award. Ms. Gerber received the award at semester orientation workshops held for Miles Community College employees on Monday, January 13. Stefani Hicswa, Miles Community College President, presented the award.

Robin Gerber is a Social Sciences and Humanities Instructor at Miles Community College. She teaches courses in History, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She has been employed with the College since 1998. She is a Miles City native and received her Associate of Arts degree from Miles Community College. She received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Montana-Missoula. She has served as a faculty advisor for the Multicultural Club student organization and has served as director of the Miles Community College Players for the last eight years, writing many of the dramatic productions.
Ms. Gerber was recognized as the 2006 Montana State Professor of the Year by the U.S. Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Sponsored by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and administered CASE, this prestigious award recognizes professors for their influence on teaching and their outstanding commitment to teaching undergraduate students.

In support of her quest for multicultural awareness, Robin submitted and received a grant in Fall 2005 to develop a culturally-based curriculum for Grades 1-8 as a part of the State of Montana's Indian Education for All Act. Her curriculum and cultural activity book "Common Ground" is a workbook of reproducible activity worksheets for children, was presented to the State of Montana for publication in early 2008.

An avid researcher and devoted to sharing community history with the younger generations, Robin researched and wrote a child's history book entitled "A Long Way From Anywhere-A History of Miles City, MT-For Kids," in 2005/2006. She is a member of the Miles City Women's Club, past commissioner on the Historic Preservation Board, and is a member of the Miles City Public Library Board.

Her colleagues referred to Robin as always dependable and professional with a keen sense of humor. She was commended for being a great asset and as a creative person who shares her talents with Miles Community College and the community.

The Miles Community College Blue and Silver award includes a gratuity from the college.
