The 2009 Miles Community College High Class Buckaroo Bash was
held for its twelfth successful year on Saturday evening,
February 7 at the Miles City Eagles Club. MCC Pioneer Rodeo
Coach Wally Badgett reported 350 people in attendance for the
dinner and art auction. There were 44 art items in the main
auction donated by artists from Montana, Canada, and throughout
the United States. There were approximately 125 silent auction
items donated from regional businesses and individuals. A total
of $37,280 was raised from this year's Bash with all netted
funds designated to the 2009-2010 Miles Community College Rodeo
Team scholarship fund. In addition, $2,000 was raised to help
MCC alumnus and 2007-2008 Pioneer Rodeo Team Manager, Casey
Ketchum, for medical expenses. Attendees at the Bash raised the
funds by buying and reselling handcrafted spurs by Lonnie
Schipman of Sidney throughout the evening. High sellers of the
evening's main art auction were a bronze "Morning Ritual" by
Brett Badgett ($6,750), a tac item "Rawhide Rosalita" by Nate
Wald ($1,000), and a bronze "Vanquished" by Bob Burkhart ($700).
As a newly introduced program, "The President's Collection"
received two donations from this year's Bash. This special
program was created to recognize the corporate and individual
support of the one-of-a-kind collectible artwork offered through
The Bash and begin a permanent art collection for display at
Miles Community College. Artwork donated was an oil painting
"The Call of Companionship" (Bryan Tarter) from Wayne Morford
and a gouache painting "Horse Dreams" (Whitney Badgett) from
Bill Champion.
Coach Badgett commented on the success of this year's Bash, "The
MCC Rodeo program would not be the strong program it is without
the community's great support of the Bash. Words can't express
our thanks for all those who contribute artwork, time, and
support this annual event in our fundraising efforts to offer
student scholarships. We wouldn't be here without everyone's
help!"
