Miles Community College is now using an event reminder and update service called EventLink™. EventLink™ provides users with school event updates via e-mail and text message. MCC will use it as an event reminder system and as part of their emergency communication plan; or for closings, delays or other important events that require immediate communication with the entire school community. Anyone with internet access and an e-mail address can sign up for the EventLink™. From single sports schedules to Student Senate meetings, EventLink™ is an efficient, reliable and easy to use system that delivers messages to users instantly. Miles Community College encourages all students, parents’ teachers and community members to sign up for this free service. MCC will promote involvement by sending introductory e-mails and newsletters to all MCC contacts. School Databooks, a Lafayette, Indiana based company, provides MCC with the EventLink™. They have found that both students and community members are signing up to use this new service. “Efficient, effective communication is important to any school administrator and the school community as a whole. The nature of our product allows us to create a communication tool that is easy for the school to administer,” said Jon Sautter, marketing director for School Databooks. “Studies indicate students use text messages to communicate, which is not surprising, just walk down the halls. What’s surprising is that the public is starting to see value in digital communication as well. Currently 47% of EventLink™ users are over the age of 35.”
