The Miles Community College Center for Distance Education and Community Outreach (DECO) will host the class “GPS 101”. Dr. Van Shelhamer will teach this class Wednesday, April 7, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 8, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in room 314 at Miles Community College. Garmin 76 and 60 GPS receivers and computers will be furnished. Students will learn the use of GPS receivers, gain understanding of different coordinate systems, and determine coordinates from topographic maps. Class instruction includes the following:

• Collect waypoints and tracks
• Navigate to and from a location
• Create routes and use track back features
• Download and upload data into the GPS receiver
• Produce maps and print out generated maps from tracks and waypoints.
