MCC’s Agri Equine Complex Update

Miles Community College has made improvements to their outdoor arena in preparation for the Agri Equine Complex, which is their current capital campaign. Over the past year, MCC has installed four sets of run-in sheds and pens for the livestock. In conjunction with the pens, automatic water systems have been added and dirt work has been completed for better drainage.Much of the dirt work was accomplished with the help of Heavy Equipment students and their Instructor, Jerry Forman.

The Agri Equine Complex is an important capital campaign for Miles Community College because the college is passionate about student success. This complex would allow the students and their livestock to be out of the weather during the winter months so they can learn in a positive and comfortable environment. The Agri Equine Complex would assist the Rodeo Team by allowing them a facility to practice in all year round. The Equine Studies Program would benefit from having a space to hold classes with their horses during inclement weather. The Ag Program would be able to promote their classes and clinics, along with a Judging Team.

Graduates of the Equine Studies Program are prepared for a career in equine business and management, colt training, assistant trainer and facilities management. The students learn how to communicate effectively with their horse, understand basic horse care and nutrition, and start a colt from the ground up; furthermore, they establish a solid foundation to go into such disciplines as reigning, cutting, roping ranch horses and trail horses.

The Agriculture/Agribusiness Program is designed to allow students to attain employment upon graduation in production agriculture and other agriculture-related endeavors such as agriculture banking, agriculture sales, crop adjusting, and farm and ranch management.

The Agri Equine Complex plan includes a 130’ X 300’ Cover-All Titan building which is made of translucent fabric membrane that allows natural daylight into the building and reduces the transmission of heat. Cover-all buildings operate year round in climates that experience heavy snow and high winds. They have taller ceilings, less noise, natural light and open areas which is an optimal environment for training horses.
