The Center for Academic Success coordinates the following programs:

Adult Basic Education/General Educational
Development (ABE/GED) Program
This program prepares adults to test successfully for the
General Educational Development (GED) diploma and offers free
individualized instruction in reading, English, and mathematics at the pre-college level.
Adult Basic Ed and GED program enrollment is ongoing, though new students are required to complete an orientation prior to
enrolling. Please plan on 2 hours for orientation and 2 ½ hours to complete initial paperwork and placement exams when
you begin your program. Please call the Center for Academic Success at (406) 874-6152 to schedule your orientation appointment. Free online
GED preparation is also available after placement exams are taken. |

Testing |
Testing Fee $55 for
entire exam. Scholarships are available for those who study in class or online for 60 hours and meet pre-testing guidelines.

Assessment
Miles Community College administers the COMPASS placement test
to assess student skills. Assessment results are used by
academic advisors to match students with courses that are
consistent with their skill level. COMPASS scores will be valid
for one year from the date of the original assessment, and
students are permitted no more than two retests per subject area
each semester.
Though COMPASS is untimed, please plan at least 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete your COMPASS testing.
Please keep in mind the hours we are open when you call to
schedule your COMPASS testing appointment. To schedule, please

Assistance for Students With Disabilities
Miles Community College provides support services for otherwise
qualified students with disabilities. The College is committed
to providing reasonable accommodations within the scope of the
College's programs and resources to ensure that qualified
students with disabilities are able to enjoy the same rights and
assume the same responsibilities as any other student. Students
with disabilities who would like to request accommodations are
required to provide documentation of their disability to the
Disabilities Coordinator, Sarah Pett, Center for Academic
Success, Room 208 in order to arrange for appropriate, reasonable

Developmental Studies
The Developmental Studies Program provides individualized
instruction in reading, English, and mathematics for students
requiring refresher classes before entering college- level
courses. This instruction is provided free of charge. |

English as a Second Language
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program provides
instruction for students and community members having English as their second
language. Based on individual need, the ESL curriculum offers
skill development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
This instruction is provided free of charge unless taken for
credit and/or in conjunction with regular college courses. |

Transitional Studies
This program provides free instruction in math, study skills,
and composition at a college review level for students who are
reentering school or who did not have college preparation
courses in high school. |

Free Online Tutoring
How to use FREE Online Tutoring and the Resource Library
Peer Tutoring
Students who struggle to understand classroom information or to
complete routine assignments may need the assistance of a tutor.
With the individualized assistance that tutoring offers,
students can master academic material at their own pace. Tutors
are available for most courses offered and are chosen for their
academic ability and desire to help others. There is no charge
for this service.

Become a Peer Tutor
Students who are interested in becoming a peer tutor should
fill out a Tutor Application Form and return it to the

To gain a better understanding of yourself as a learner, you need to evaluate the way you prefer to learn or process information. By doing so, you will be able to develop strategies which will enhance your learning potential. |
