This is a distance learning program that will provide
students with skills necessary for employment as
transcriptionists. This employment can be local or through a
national transcription company. Students may, preferably after
work experience, take the Certified Medical Transcriptionist
(CMT) test for national certification.
Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:
- Transcribe medical documents—chart notes, history,
physicals, etc.
- Retrieve and file medial records using terminal digit
filing
- Release medical information following confidentiality
rules
- Set up and run a medical transcription business from
home
- Transcribe for a hospital, clinic, etc. or do home-based
medical transcription for national transcription company
NOTE: This program has specific entrance requirements. Please
contact the Admissions Office. The program course requirements
are presented in sequence. Students who cannot follow this
sequence should check course descriptions in this Catalog to
determine prerequisites and, in addition, should consult their
academic advisor regarding the order in which they take courses.
