ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED
SCIENCE
The following vocational-technical curricula are designed
to prepare students for immediate employment upon completion
of a specified program. These programs can also be transferred
to selected four-year colleges and universities. See your
advisor for recommended transfer schools.
INDIVIDUALIZED DEGREE PROGRAM/STUDENT DESIGNED MAJOR
Students with a career goal in mind which does not match any of the programs
listed here may (in conjunction with the advisor) propose a student-designed
degree program to the Academic Standards Committee. These student-designed programs
are for students entering directly into the job market and not intended for transfer.
Contact the advisor for additional information.
AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Auto Mechanics is a two-year program that will provide students
with the skills necessary for employment in the field of
auto mechanics (repair, service, maintenance, retail/wholesale
parts businesses). The program has an ASE certified instructor
who prepares students to become ASE certified (the tests
are offered every spring at MCC) a requirement for all new
hires in major auto dealerships.
The program course scheduling has been planned to the recommended
sequence below. Variations from the recommended sequence
may result in scheduling conflicts that could necessitate
more than the one or two years required to complete the program.

ELECTRONICS
TECHNOLOGY - Program is currently
on hiatus for restructuring.
The program is designed to give a solid background that most careers
in electronic fields are built on. This knowledge can be applied to
a wide range of job opportunities.
Utilization of computers and hands-on experience with a wide variety
of equipment are key components of each course. The program is designed
to make an easy transition
into a new job market with minimal on the job training. This program
also works well as a starting point for continued studies in electronics.
Upon completion
of the A.A.S. degree, students are well qualified for entry-level positions
or to continue pursuit of a baccalaureate degree at a four-year institution.
Two-Year Associate of Applied Science Degree
The first year of the program covers basic electronics and building
the basic foundations for continuing studies in electronics. The
second year
builds
on the basic concepts of the first year to introduce digital techniques
and micro-controller
concepts and fundamentals. The second year also includes an "In-House Industry" section
to give the student a real world environment for trouble-shooting,
repairing, and maintaining equipment on campus.
Course Schedule
The program course scheduling has been planned to the recommended sequence
below. Variations from the recommended sequence may result in scheduling
conflicts that
could necessitate more than two years required to complete the program.

information. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
To earn a degree in this field, students must
complete the core requirements and select from
one of two
options: Computer
Applications
or Computer
Science.
Computer Applications is geared toward students
wanting immediate employment in the work force
upon completion
of the Associate
of Applied Science
degree.
The Computer Science option is more for the
technically-minded students. The classes are
more advanced and favorable
for transfer. The student
may be prepared
for computer tech employment or transfer to
a four-year institution upon completion of
our two-year program.
