Two Year Transfer Degrees

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS AND ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE

The Associate of Arts/Science (A.A./A.S.) degrees are general transfer degrees. They indicate that the student has completed a course of study equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor's degree. These degrees do not officially specify a major or minor course of study. Generally these degrees are the beginning of a liberal arts or pre-professional program.

Below are some examples of the types of majors that a student might eventually pursue at a four-year college or university for which Miles Community College can offer the first two years of study. Programs in other major fields of study may be developed in consultation with faculty advisors.

Transfer of Credits
All Miles Community College courses numbered 100 or above, properly selected to meet the lower-division requirements of a given subject major, are accepted by the colleges and universities of Montana, as well as by accredited colleges and universities outside the state. Students should check with the department of the college or university to which they plan to transfer to ensure full acceptance of credits in a specific program. Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university should follow the steps listed below:
1. Determine as soon as possible the school to which you wish to transfer.

2. Obtain a current catalog of that institution and study entrance requirements and suggestions for courses for freshman and sophomore students in your major field of interest.

3
. Confer with your faculty advisor about fulfilling requirements.

4
. Confer, either by letter, email or personal interview, with an admissions officer or department chair of the school to which you want to transfer for further information about curriculum and transfer regulations.

5
. A semester before transfer, check to be certain all requirements will be met to the satisfaction of the four-year school.

6
. Research specific school grade and or/test requirements.

General Education Transfer Policy
1. The Montana University System is committed to facilitating the ease of undergraduate student transfer to its campuses. Therefore, all campuses of the Montana University System will recognize the integrity of general education programs offered by units of the Montana University System and the three publicly supported community colleges in Montana. Undergraduate students who have completed an approved general education program of between 30 and 45 lower division credit hours at one of the institutions noted above and who transfer to another of those institutions will be deemed to have met the lower the lower division general education requirements of the campus to which the students have transferred. Students who have not completed such an approved general education program will have their transcript evaluated for transfer purposes using the Statewide Core Curriculum and Community College Transfer Guide

2. Depending upon the major program into which the student transfers, additional lower division requirements may still be necessary for the transfer student to complete as part of the published programmatic prerequisites
