Miles Community College is
utilizing Fund for the Improvement of
Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) funding to support the
development of Nurse Transition and Health Occupations
courses. Miles Community College seeks to address the critical
healthcare workforce shortage in Montana by utilizing a career
ladder approach in the development of Nurse Transition
courses. Additionally, the Health Occupations courses are
intended to increase student exposure to health occupations
opportunities, as well as to encourage students to enroll in a
health science-related college program.
NR 100
Fundamentals For Health Professions
(2 Credits)
Course runs each semester.
This course will offer
information necessary for understanding the many health
occupations that compose America’s health care industry. Among
the topics covered are: information on specific careers in
health care; job seeking and keeping skills; communications in
health care; careers in alternative health care; legal and
ethical issues, safety and infection control; medical
terminology, and basic anatomy and physiology. The main
didactic portion of the course will utilize an online format
with classes scheduled in MCC’s computer lab (this
portion may be completed off-campus). Guest speakers
are scheduled each Tuesday at 8 a.m. (taped for those
without ITV access), with job-shadowing opportunities
arranged upon completion of the coursework. Any
interested adults may also register for this course.
* High school graduation
credit (dual credit) may be arranged through individual
high schools.
Certified Nurse Assistant Preparatory Course
(4
credits)
This course is designed to
prepare students for state certification and employment in the
long-term care setting. Scheduled to be offered spring 2004.
