MCC Student Receives $5,000 Scholarship Donation

Megan Dyba, a nursing student at Miles Community College (MCC), has received a $5,000 scholarship donated by Miles City business man, Roger Lothspeich. Lothspeich decided to give the donation because of the shortage of nurses in the area. “There is a shortage of nurses, and I really wanted to encourage the students to go into nursing.” He says, “MCC is local and they have an excellent nursing program.”

Megan Dyba was selected to be the recipient after a meeting with Karla Lund and MCC Financial Aid Director, Loren Lancaster. “It is going to impact me greatly. Right now my husband is the only one working while I go to school,” says Megan. “Things can be a little bit tight, and it has been hard for me to work because I have a six year old son and my husband has epilepsy.”

“It will definitely make her life a lot easier,” said Nursing Director, Karla Lund, speaking on the impact of the scholarship. “This will allow Megan to be more focused on school and take the stress out of worrying about how to pay the bills.”

“Karla Lund called me in the morning and I thought that I was still asleep,” says Megan when she found out. “I wasn’t sure if this was real. I have never really been anyone to ever really get anything, so it took a while to sink in.”

“I would hope that this would have a tremendous impact on the student, especially for a student in need,” says Lothspeich.

That description is very fitting for Megan Dyba according to Karla Lund, “Megan is a very hardworking, dedicated soul. She deserves this as much as anybody. I have never seen her not smiling. This is a very special donation that Roger has given and it will benefit Megan greatly.”
