Welcome Wagon 2018

MCC students move in August 30; Activities planned all week to welcome them back

Students will be moving onto campus on Thursday, August 30. Faculty and staff will be assisting with the move-in process. The time between then and when school starts on September 5 is full of events and activities that have been planned to welcome students to the Miles City area.

MCC Dean of Student Engagement and Auxiliary Services Richard DeShields has been working hard to ensure that students have a great time during the week, “Welcome Wagon is meant to help with the transition of students to MCC and Miles City. By providing these social events, it allows our students to connect with one another and to become familiar with the College and the Community. Research indicates that students are more successful if they connect early and get involved within the college and Welcome Wagon helps initiate this involvement.”

The week of activities will kick off on August 30 with move-in and continue through September 5.

After the students move in on Thursday, August 30, there will be a welcome back BBQ. Following the BBQ, there will be numerous activities for the students, including volleyball, battle balls, and a street sign shop where students can create their own street signs for their rooms.

Friday, August 31, Hypnotist Thomas Bresadola will be on campus at 7:00 pm, followed by game night in the halls.

On Saturday, September 1, complementary brats will be served to students at the Pioneer baseball scrimmage at Tedesco field at 1:00 pm. That evening a movie will be shown on the campus green.

Sunday, September 2 will be an outdoor field day which includes a bouncy house and sno-cones. That evening there will be a student lip sync competition at 7:00 pm.

Monday, September 3 students are invited to attend a complimentary movie at the Montana Theater at 7:00 pm.

Tuesday, September 4 there are informational sessions throughout the day for the students to attend.

Classes are set to begin on Wednesday, September 5. That evening, the Pioneer volleyball team will be on the court against Rocky Mountain College JV for their first home game of the season. This will be a blue-out game. We want everybody who attends the game that night to support their Pioneers by proudly wearing their blue. The first 100 students to arrive will get a free blue-out shirt.

MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the students, “MCC is always excited for the start of a new school year. It is a wonderful opportunity to welcome our new students and reengage with our returning students. Our Welcome Wagon activities are a great way for new students to transition to college and have some fun prior to the start of classes on Sept. 5.”

This is an exciting time for MCC, as students get to know their new home and learn what the campus and the community have to offer. Help us in welcoming students back to campus and showing them what the Pioneer spirit is all about.
