MCC Instructor Dr. Magestro Named MUS Teaching Scholar

Miles Community College is proud to announce that Dr. Molly Magestro, MCC general education English instructor, has been selected as one of the 2020-2021 Cohort Montana University System (MUS) Teaching Scholars.

MUS Teaching Scholars is an annual program that recognizes faculty who are committed to providing the kind of high-quality educational experiences that have become a signature part of public higher education in Montana. This cohort of MUS Teaching Scholars are funded through support from the National Association of System Heads (NASH) and the Lumina Foundation. The theme for this year is Equity-Minded Pedagogies.

"It means a lot to be accepted into the program," commented Dr. Magestro. "It will provide me the opportunity and support to shine a spotlight on an equity-minded approach to teaching and learning at MCC." Dr. Magestro says she is also excited to work with and learn from the cohort of instructors chosen from across the state.

As part of the program’s goal of building sustainable communities around innovations and excellence in teaching and learning, the chose scholars are charged with building and facilitating faculty learning communities focused on the annual theme. Throughout the year, MUS Teaching Scholars program will use the “Equity-Minded Pedagogies” idea to support faculty as they advance teaching and learning practices, curriculum, praxis, and the scholarship of teaching and learning specifically designed to address systemic inequities and injustices in the classroom. These efforts align directly with the Board of Regents goals around college participation, retention, and completion, particularly for our underserved students.

"This is an outstanding honor for Dr. Magestro to be accepted into this MUS Scholars program," commented Dr. Rita Kratky, MCC Vice President of Academic Affair. "We are very proud of the work Dr. Magestro is doing on our community college campus."
