MMiles Community College to Celebrate 81st Commencement

Miles Community will hold its 81st annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 8, at 10:00am at the MCC Centra in Miles City. Livestreaming of the event will be available on the MCC channel on Youtube.

MCC anticipates awarding 131 degrees to 117 students. Degrees awarded will be Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Science in Registered Nursing, Associate of Applied Science, Certificate of Applied Science, and/or a Certificate.

33 students have earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 of higher, and will be recognized as honor graduates. Seven students with 4.0 GPAs have been named valedictorians. Those students are Wacy Arndt, of Miles City, Favour Chukwukelu, of Las Vegas, NV, Emily Dale, of Toole, UT, Tessa Della Silva, of Hamilton, MT, Janie Nelson, of Newdale, ID, Jakim Ricketts, of Livingston, MT, and Kayla Woods of Forsyth.

Three students will also be recognized as the outstanding graduate from their respective academic division. Favour Chukwukelu has been awarded the Arts and Sciences Outstanding Graduate Award, Jakim Ricketts has been awarded the Career and Technical Division Award, and Belinda Forman, of Knowlton, MT, has been awarded the Nursing Division Outstanding Graduate Award.

The program begins at 10:00am. The three outstanding graduates will lead the student processional. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard, Post 1579, will present the colors, and Kaigen Roskelley will sing the National Anthem. Carson Houser will give the invocation. Ron Slinger, President of MCC, will give the welcome and will then present the faculty and staff excellence awards. Ryan Jones, Chair of the MCC Board of Trustees, will also welcome students and guests. James Simon, president of the Associated Students of Miles Community College, will give the student address. Slinger will then present the Hall of Fame award to Dr. Eileen A. Hemman, COL (Ret.). Hemman will also provide the commencement address.

Following Hemman’s address, President Slinger will recognize the honor graduates and present the candidates for graduation. Vice President of Academic Affairs Rita Kratky will introduce the candidates before president Slinger confers degrees. The MCC Board of Trustees will present the diplomas to the graduates, while their names are read by Garth Sleight, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Sarah Kloewer, Associate Dean of Instruction and Distance Learning, and Deidre Fitzgerald, Director of Nursing. After the presentation of diplomas, Kelsey Kolka will give the benediction.
