Welcome to the Pioneer family! We’re so excited to have you begin your studies at MCC this year!

In preparation to make your transition to college as smooth as possible, we invite you to complete the Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) process. All new students, including transfer students and students returning after an absence of more than five years, are required to complete orientation before they register for their first semester courses at Miles Community College.

Students may choose from any of the listed SOAR dates, and can attend SOAR on-campus or virtually (virtual will have some synchronous, or “real-time” requirements during the SOAR day). While we think attending SOAR and advising on campus is the best way to prepare for life as an on-campus student, we recognize that summer travel to MCC isn’t possible for all, for a variety of reasons, which is why we have made virtual options available for all dates. Additionally, students that will be 100% online (in a fully online program and never setting foot on campus for classes or their program), can choose to complete an asynchronous, online version of SOAR. Please use the appropriate registration link based on your status.

On-Campus SOAR Sessions will begin at approximately 8:30am and conclude by 4:00pm. Depending on program advisor availability, some students may be done earlier in the day. However, please note that attendance at the full day event is required in order to register for classes, so please plan your travel and accommodations accordingly. A light continental breakfast, and lunch for students and up to 2 registered guests will be provided at no charge.

Students must be accepted for admission before completing SOAR, and all admissions checklist items, including high school transcripts and official college transcripts, should be on file with our admissions office before attending. Students requiring placement testing should plan to complete any testing needs prior to completing SOAR and meeting with an advisor. Please see “New Student Placement Process” for more information.

All SOAR attendees will have required supplemental content to complete in Canvas, our online learning management system. You’ll be sent this information a few weeks in advance of your scheduled SOAR date. You will need to complete this material BEFORE your SOAR date - completing these pre-orientation modules in advance of attending SOAR means that we can keep SOAR programming as relevant and informative as possible, and make the best use of your time on campus. For students completing SOAR virtually, completing all online material is an important part of your transition to MCC and the best way for us to ensure you have all needed information prior to enrolling.
