    Student Spotlight - Rachel Hagar

    Rachel Hagar

“Before I passed the HiSET, I just felt stuck. Now I have so many more choices and opportunities.”

Rachel didn’t follow the traditional route in her schooling be-cause, “working and making money was always more important to me than school.” Rachel has always had a job and has been a very hard worker. This hard work ethic helped her achieve her goal of completing the HiSET test.

Rachel’s family has been a huge support. “Family and friends have been happy for me; they were always encouraging me and sup-porting me. My grandfather really wanted me to graduate; he was a big influence,” Rachel says. She also feels that the support she was given at the Learning Center has been amazing. “The teachers gave me the tools and the support I needed to succeed. They were great because they kept calling me and telling me that I can do this.” Even when she felt like giving up and quitting, she kept working hard. She would look back at her jour-naling assignment from HiSET orientation, and this would give her inspi-ration and hope.

Rachel’s advice to other HiSET students: “Don’t give up. Have confidence in yourself. It was struggle but you can do it. It was 110% worth the effort.” Rachel’s future looks bright because she has choices and options she didn’t have before completing the HiSET.
